Halloween in Toronto

Ok...technically this is Halloween in Etobicoke, but whatever. Unfortunately, my understanding of how Halloween works doesn't fit with Toronto tradition, and I was out before all of the trick or treaters! Seriously, at 6 pm I expected to see all of the cute costumes on kids too young to carry their own baskets, but there was no one (though I did see one toddler barely old enough to walk wearing a walrus costume when I went out for dinner, so that is something). Luckily for me my efforts weren't totally wasted, as many houses in this particular neighbourhood decorated according to the motto "go big or go home" (yes that cat is about 20 feet tall).

Happy Halloween :)

A collection of portraits

I recently signed up for a membership on a website called Model Mayhem with the hope of gaining some more experience shooting portraits. I've pretty much pushed the friends I already have to their limits in terms of impromptu photo shoots, and I prefer to be behind the camera, so I figured it might be a good way to meet people who actually like to have their pictures taken.

Of course, listing oneself as a "photographer" requires uploading a sample of images from a portfolio. I have a fair number of photos on Flickr, but have never really put any thought into what I would include in a portfolio to best represent my photographic 'style'...if I have one.

So, here is a collection of my favourite portraits (you can see a few more here!):

77/365.

And on the 7th day (of black and white), there was free falling in the dining room.

I just finished a 7 day stint of black and white images for my 365 challenge. It was harder than I thought it would be to come up with something new every day that would work as a monochrome. If you'd like to see a small collection of different b/w styles, you can check out days 1-6 on Flickr!

Janet

Janet and I went out yesterday for a stroll through the woods...here's some of what we came up with (see even more of them on Flickr!):
