Halloween in Toronto
Ok...technically this is Halloween in Etobicoke, but whatever. Unfortunately, my understanding of how Halloween works doesn't fit with Toronto tradition, and I was out before all of the trick or treaters! Seriously, at 6 pm I expected to see all of the cute costumes on kids too young to carry their own baskets, but there was no one (though I did see one toddler barely old enough to walk wearing a walrus costume when I went out for dinner, so that is something). Luckily for me my efforts weren't totally wasted, as many houses in this particular neighbourhood decorated according to the motto "go big or go home" (yes that cat is about 20 feet tall).

A collection of portraits
I recently signed up for a membership on a website called Model Mayhem with the hope of gaining some more experience shooting portraits. I've pretty much pushed the friends I already have to their limits in terms of impromptu photo shoots, and I prefer to be behind the camera, so I figured it might be a good way to meet people who actually like to have their pictures taken.
Of course, listing oneself as a "photographer" requires uploading a sample of images from a portfolio. I have a fair number of photos on Flickr, but have never really put any thought into what I would include in a portfolio to best represent my photographic 'style'...if I have one.
So, here is a collection of my favourite portraits (you can see a few more here!):

77/365.
And on the 7th day (of black and white), there was free falling in the dining room.
I just finished a 7 day stint of black and white images for my 365 challenge. It was harder than I thought it would be to come up with something new every day that would work as a monochrome. If you'd like to see a small collection of different b/w styles, you can check out days 1-6 on Flickr!

Sunset love
Love of sunsets, that is. In particular, one sunset I viewed at/near Peggy's Cove the last time I visited Halifax.
If you read yesterday's post, you may be wondering why these photos aren't (all) black and white. If you want to follow my Monochrome Week adventure, you can click here. I don't want to use this blog as a second 365 page...I already update my Flickr page almost every day! So here are some pretty sunsets:

Project within a project
Today marks Day 71 of my 365 challenge (see days 1 through 70 by visiting me on Flickr!), and Day 1 of a mini-project: All monochrome, all week! I'm doing this to get myself really thinking about what kinds of subjects, compositions and colours are best suited to monochrome images. Often I decide that I like something in black and white after I take the photo, but the ones I like most are always planned in advance.
White Balanced
Hello there. I can see you've found my new photography blog...welcome!
I'm a graduate student in Experimental Psychology with a passion for photography and creative arts in general. I'm not really sure what direction I'll take with this blog, but I'm glad you've visited! I have a 365 Day Challenge project currently underway (as of this post, I'm on day 71). I won't upload all 71 images here, but you can see them if you visit me on Flickr!
